Architecture and Construction Career Pathway at GlobalED

Construction Pathway

Construction careers are considered a part of the goods producing industries sector, according to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics. “The construction sector comprises establishments primarily engaged in the construction of buildings or engineering projects.” Job options include carpenters, construction laborers, construction managers, electricians, operating engineers, and construction equipment operators. Hourly earnings can average from $22 per hour to $50 per hour, depending on the job and the worker’s experience.

Students interested in this pathway can choose courses such as Construction Fundamentals and Careers to find out more about working in construction. They can continue with Building Maintenance Technology levels I and II and Career and Life Skills classes.

Architecture and Engineering Pathway

People working in the Architecture and Engineering field enjoy creative and satisfying careers currently earning from $54,000 per year to as much as $135,000 per year. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, “These workers design and develop structures, products, and systems and collect information for mapping and other purposes.”

High school graduates can find work right away as surveying and mapping technologists, while those who go on to earn an associate’s degree in this field can work as drafters, technologists and technicians in such diverse fields such as aerospace engineering, civil engineering, electrical and electro-mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, and many other fields. If they continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree, they can earn top wages and become architects, landscape architects, cartographers, or engineers working in one of many exciting fields such as aerospace, environment, electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering.

GlobalED offers two high school pathways in Architecture and Engineering: (1) Design/Pre-Construction Architecture and Engineering Design, and (2) Design/Pre-Construction Drafting. Students all begin with Principles of Architecture and Construction and Architectural Design level I. After these introductory courses, students interested in drafting go on to courses in Drafting and Design, while students interested in Architecture continue to level II of Architectural Design.

GlobalED students have multiple opportunities in career pathway courses. The Architecture and Construction pathways open doors for students interested in construction, drafting, surveying and mapping, architecture, and engineering. The courses in these pathways make education relevant so that students are engaged and excited about learning. Students who enroll in GlobalED’s career pathways courses have a bright future ahead of them.
